Taxi Notice - Airport Permit Holders 20/6/2012

Taxi Notice 09
Date: 15th June 2012
Short Fare Procedure

As short fare cards are no longer issued to permit holders who request a short fare it's important that drivers understand that they must ensure that the taxi dispatcher is fully aware when they are requesting a short fare.

Some permit holders are blowing horns, shouting and waving from their car at the dispatchers and this has lead to some confusion when permit holders return to the rank thinking they have a short fare when they haven’t requested one properly.
Permit holders are required to:

  • Approach the Taxi dispatcher and wait until they are available.
  • Inform the Taxi dispatcher of short fare request.
  • Wait for the Taxi dispatcher to confirm the request.
It's important to note that a short fare period commences at the point where a permit holder drives over the pedestrian crossing at Terminal 1 and 2, it ends at the point where the permit holder returns to the rank when they pass through the barrier. It does not start from the point that it is entered onto the hand held device.
